Macquarie and Enso Energy launch U.K. solar JV

Macquarie’s Green Investment Group (GIG) and Enso Energy have launched a joint venture focused on solar development projects in the United Kingdom.

The partnership was established with the aim to create one of the largest subsidy-free solar and battery storage portfolios in the United Kingdom, which will deliver clean energy to communities and businesses across the country, according to GIG.

GIG and Enso have already identified a pipeline of projects that are currently in development and represent an initial 1 gigawatt of capacity. The projects are grid secured and have been submitted for planning approval.

Many of these projects will use tracking and bifacial solar technology to maximize the amount of energy produced per hectare and reduce the physical footprint of each project. GIG noted that these subsidy-free solar farms are expected to be backed by power purchase agreements.
