Louisiana port gives $9.2b renewable diesel plant project the green light

The Port of Greater Baton Rouge has approved a land lease agreement that gives the development of one of the largest renewable energy facilities in Louisiana the green light to move forward, according to several news reports.

At a special meeting earlier in the month, Gron Fuels, a portfolio company of the Houston-based Fidelis Infrastructure, was approved to build a renewable diesel plant on 141 acres of port property in Baton Rouge, La. The facility could involve up to $9.2 billion to develop over several phases and will produce 60,000 barrels of renewable diesel fuel per day in the first phase alone, according to Greater Baton Rouge Business Report.

The plant is expected to be operational in 2023, according to a report by The Advocate. The plant will manufacture renewable diesel from soybean oil, canola oil and used cooking oil.
