Long-time CIO of Idaho pension fund to retire

by Kali Persall

Bob Maynard, CIO of the $24 billion Public Employee Retirement System of Idaho (PERSI), has announced his plans to retire after 30 years at the fund, according to news sources. The change will take effect in September 2022.

PERSI said it will begin the process of selecting a replacement at the appropriate time.

“For 30 years, Bob has played an instrumental role in transforming PERSI into the strong and stable fund it currently is,” said Jeff Cilek, chairman of PERSI’s board. “Bob’s insight into the global economy and steady hand will be missed.”

When Maynard joined the system as CIO in 1992, the fund had $2.1 billion in assets and a funding level of 62 percent. As of the end of fiscal year 2020, the retirement system reported a funding ratio of 87.7 percent.
