LAFPP CIO resigns after less than a year

Ray Joseph, CIO of the $31.1 billion Los Angeles Fire and Police Pensions (LAFPP), has resigned for personal reasons, effective immediately.

Joseph joined the pension fund in June 2021 to replace Tom Lopez, who retired after more than 40 years at LAFPP. Joseph, who has more than 25 years of public and private investment experience, previously served as a vice president at Wilshire Associates, where he provided investment strategies for pension plans, endowments, foundations and family offices.

Before that he was responsible for cross-asset strategy, asset allocation and investor solutions for pensions, endowments, and foundations at Barclays. He also was the deputy CIO and the acting CIO for the State of New Jersey’s Division of Investment, where he managed pension investments, deferred compensation plans and the state’s cash-management program.
