Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), a state-run nuclear plant operator, has signed an agreement with several partners to jointly invest in a Chilean solar project, according to several news sources.
The investments mark KHNP’s foray into South America.
The consortium includes Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corp (KIND), S Energy, and Hanyang Electric at COEX in Seoul. Together, the companies will build a 6.6-megawatt solar plant in Guadalupe and a 6.4-megawatt plant in Maria Pinto — both near the capital of Santiago.
KHNP aims to start construction this year, with completion slated for 2021. The company will operate the two plants for 25 years, beginning in 2021.
