KCERA appoints Daryn Miller as new CIO

The Kern County (Calif.) Employees’ Retirement Association has appointed Daryn Miller as the retirement association’s new chief investment officer.

Miller will be responsible for overseeing KCERA’s investment program, including risk management, investment manager oversight, due diligence, and investment policies and objectives.

Miller joins KCERA after serving as interim chief investment officer at the City of San Jose’s two defined benefit pension plans, valued at approximately $6 billion. Prior to that role, he managed the absolute return and global tactical asset/opportunistic allocations, risk management initiative, rebalancing and tactical decision-making. He also managed San Jose’s global equity asset class. Earlier in his career, he spent five years at Goldman Sachs, where he was a vice president in equity research.

Miller earned an MBA from the University of Southern California and a BA from Vanguard University. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
