INREV’s Quarterly Asset Level Index goes into negative territory for the first time

The European Association for Investors in Non-Listed Real Estate Vehicles (INREV) has released its Quarterly Asset Level Index, which shows a 0.50 percent drop in performance for the second quarter of 2020, taking total real estate returns covered by the index into negative territory for the first time since its creation in 2014.

The index shows that real estate total returns were at –0.33 percent in the second quarter. INREV has attributed the weak performance to negative capital growth, which accelerated from a –0.45 percent decline in the first quarter to a fall of –1.21 percent in the second quarter. Income return also slid to 0.89 percent, down from 0.95 percent in the first three months of the year.
