Australia-based Infrastructure Partners Investment Fund has appointed Jonathan van Rooyen, a former fund manager at Hastings, as CIO. He will work alongside Nicole Connolly, executive director of investments.
Previously, van Rooyen served as the general manager of investments at The Infrastructure Fund (TIF) at Gardior, a A$2.5 billion ($1.6 billion) open-end unlisted infrastructure investment fund with investments in Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States, according to his LinkedIn page.
Prior to that, he was the executive director and portfolio manager, as well as the head of Asia development at Hastings, where he worked for more than four years. There, he was responsible for establishing the firm’s presence in Asia, which included leading the business case for market entry and the appointed senior members of the current Hastings Asia team.
Van Rooyen also served as the portfolio manager for the National Pension Service Corporate Partnership Airport Fund, a strategic partnership between Hastings, the National Pension Service of Korea and Incheon Airport Corp.
In addition, he was also an executive director partner with international accounting firm KPMG, where he worked in the corporate finance division, specializing in infrastructure valuations for listed and unlisted clients.
Van Rooyen holds a Bachelor of Business (finance and economics) from RMIT and a graduate diploma in applied finance and investment from the Financial Services Institute of Australasia.
He specializes in infrastructure investment, Asia market entry and strategy.
IPIF provides access to unlisted infrastructure assets via specialist funds, according to the fund’s website. IPIF Core currently invests in Utilities Trust of Australia, which is managed by Morrison & Co.; the Global Diversified Infrastructure Fund Hedged Feeder Fund 2, which is managed by Colonial First State Global Asset Management; and the AMP Capital Diversified Infrastructure Trust, which is managed by AMP Capital.
