Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Metrolinx have issued two RFQ’s for interested firms to design, build and finance two of the Stations and Off-Corridor projects. The projects — new Regional Express Rail (RER) Stations and Smart Track Stations — are part of a larger, systemwide plan to improve GO Transit service.
The province is investing $21.3 billion to transform the GO rail network from a commuter transit system to a regional rapid transit system.
The RFQs outline the scope of work required for both projects, which includes:
- New station buildings or pavilions
- Trackbed and grading
- Platforms
- New parking
- Pedestrian access (tunnel or overpass)
- Public realm improvements
Major infrastructure updates are required to bring this level of service to communities across the region, including: modifying GO stations, improving rail crossings, building required systems for electrification, and adding new locomotives and train control systems.
The RFQs are the first step in the procurement process to select a team to deliver the projects. IO and Metrolinx will evaluate submissions to prequalify project teams with the relevant design, construction experience and financial capacity to undertake projects of this size and complexity.
Teams that qualify will be invited to respond to a Request for Proposals in winter 2018–2019. Interested firms must register with https://www.merx.com/ to download the RFQ.
