Infrastructure firms explore new strategies for expansion as asset class gains popularity

Boston Consulting Group (BCG) has released a report on the state of private infrastructure investing, titled Infrastructure Strategy 2025: How Investors Can Gain Advantage as the Asset Class Matures.

The report notes although private infrastructure investing has faced a challenging past couple of years, infrastructure funds are expanding to attract capital, from retail investors as well as institutional. They are also broadening their traditional mandates to provide limited partners with more differentiated risk/return profiles and offering investments in new, nontraditional next-generation infrastructure segments.

For example, general partners are looking to satisfy investor appetite for higher returns by moving up the risk curve, launching various core-plus, value-added and opportunistic funds. And these funds are increasingly investing in nontraditional next-generation infrastructure assets such as infrastructure-related services, software support
