India has invited expression of interest (EoI) for the country’s first offshore wind energy project.
The EoI request has been launched by the National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE), a research and development institution under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
The 1-gigawatt offshore wind project will be located in the Gulf of Khambat, off the coast of Gujarat.
MNRE plans to install at least 5 gigawatts of offshore wind capacity by 2022.
The winner will be selected through competitive bidding among shortlisted parties. It will enter into a 25-year power purchase agreement with a designated government agency.
Responses are due on May 25, with the opening set for May 28.
