Indeck Energy Services is planning to start construction on a $1 billion natural gas power plant project in Niles Industrial Park in the city of Niles, Mich., sometime this summer.
Indeck met with Noles city officials on Monday with U.S. Rep. Fred Upton along with Amtrak officials to discuss the last details of the project.
The project will provide clean energy, improve the tax base and create jobs for the community.
It originally fell through due to the rising of natural gas prices, making it financially unfeasible.
The project is now in its final stages after the state of Michigan approved more than $140 million for the project. It is now looking for private investors to help cover the rest.
The plant will generate 1,000 megawatts of energy, enough to power 635,000 homes and businesses through the use of clean natural gas and state-of-the-art technologies.
The project is expected to open in 2021.
