The growing number of European cyberattacks has attracted €2.3 billion ($2.7 billion) of venture capital (VC) investment into European headquartered cybersecurity companies during the last five years, with a record level of €724 million ($859 million) recorded in 2019, according to Savills. The United Kingdom accounted for €1.3 billion ($1.5 billion) of the five-year total, with an increasing flow of capital into companies based in mainland Europe, led by France (€316 million/$375 million), Switzerland (€303 million/$360 million), Ireland (€70 million/$83 million), Germany (€68 million/$81 million) and Spain (€36 million/$43 million).
With both the number of employees working from home on their personal devices and the number of cyberattacks having increased since COVID-19, investment into cybersecurity is expected to increase even further.
Mike Barnes, associate, European research, Savills, said, “Corporate investment activity into the cybersecurity
