Illinois’s Gov. Bruce Rauner has revealed plans to spend $11.05 billion on infrastructure repairs and improvements in Illinois. $2.2 billion of the budget will be paid for by state and federal funds in the upcoming fiscal year.
“Investing in transportation creates jobs and economic opportunity, improves safety, and makes Illinois a better place to raise a family,” said Rauner. “This plan will make Illinois more competitive while protecting the interests of the taxpayers.”
The new plan will support projects that yield the greatest economic benefit to communities and use long-term strategies to save money, according to the press release issued by the governor’s office.
The six-year plan is designed to improve 1,945 miles of state roads and 525 state-maintained bridges, in addition to 750 miles of local roads and more than 922,000 square feet of locally maintained bridges.
The plan also includes $148.4 million for I-80 in Will County, $26 million
