Iberdrola has proposed to develop 1,300 megawatts of wind power off the coast of New York state.
The company’s chairman Ignacio Sánchez Galán confirmed at a recent conference that the company submitted its offer to the auction this week.
Iberdrola’s proposal to develop Liberty Wind offers six options for the development of this large facility, according to the company. The project would power 700,000 New York homes and businesses with clean energy.
Avangrid, a Connecticut–based energy services and delivery company, has submitted several offers for the development of more than 1 gigawatt of offshore wind to the authorities of New York for the Liberty Wind Project. The winning bids are expected to be selected in the coming months.
New York has set a target of 9 gigawatts of offshore wind capacity by 2035, the most ambitious goal ever set by a state in the country, according to Iberdrola.
