Iberdrola has signed a contract with Windar Renovables to manufacture 21 transition pieces for the Windanker offshore wind farm in German waters, reinforcing the Baltic Hub.
Once built out, Windanker will have a capacity of 315 megawatts, incorporating new-generation turbines with a unit capacity of approximately 15 megawatts. Each of the 21 elements will have a maximum height of 17 meters (56 feet), a diameter of 8 meters (26 feet) and weigh 400 metric tons.
Iberdrola said production will be carried out at the Avilés facilities, with the collaboration of a large number of Spanish suppliers in the manufacture of the secondary structure, which will be integrated in the Port of Avilés prior to its shipment to Germany. Production is scheduled to begin in November 2024 and will run until summer 2025. Part of the electricity generated will be allocated to power sales contracts once it is commissioned in 2026.
