China-based Huawei Technologies, a global information and communications technology provider, has cut the ribbon on its first data center in Chile, in a move to strengthen its toehold in Latin America and support digital infrastructure efforts in the country.
As the “digital center of Latin America,” Huawei said Chile is a solid base for the company’s new data center, which will serve the country and greater Latin America. The company is looking to establish data centers in more regions across Latin America this year.
The launch was announced at the company’s Chile Summit 2019 event, which was attended by government representatives, companies, universities and institutions.
The new data center will provide a full-stack cloud platform and a wide range of artificial intelligence services, including multi-architecture cloud services, hybrid clouds and global local technical support, the company said.
Chile has introduced increasingly advanced technologies such as cloud computing, AI, 5G and undersea cables in recent years, in an effort to boost its economy and improve living standards, according to Huawei.
“Huawei Cloud's mission here is to create a fertile environment for enterprises and governments to digitally transform and improve international competitiveness,” said Zou Zhilei, president of Huawei Latin America Region.
The company operates data centers in 23 regions, and has launched more than 180 cloud services and solutions.
