HS2 has launched a search for specialist contractors to deliver the high voltage power supply systems for a new high-speed rail link in the United Kingdom.
Under the contract, which has been valued at £523 million ($683 million), the concessionaire will be responsible for the design, manufacture, supply, installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of the HV power supply systems.
Work also will involve the construction of 50 traction substations that will be built alongside the line between London and Crewe to deliver power from the national grid to the trains. The contractor will also deliver a dedicated HV non-traction power network that will provide power to stations, shafts, portals, depots, and railway systems along the route, which will connect London, Birmingham and the north of England.
