House Democrats propose $500b transport infrastructure bill

House Democrats have introduced a $500 billion transportation bill with particular emphasis on transit and railroads, according to news reports.

Known as the Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation (INVEST) in America, the bill would sign over $494 billion over the next five years to revamp outdated roads, bridges and transit systems with safer, more resilient infrastructure.

The majority of the money — more than $300 billion — would fund roads and highways, with the remainder being dispersed for transit, rail investments and vehicle safety investments, according to Transportation Today.
