Historic LNG development project moves forward in Mexico

The Government of the State of Sonora has signed a collaboration agreement to move Mexico Pacific’s anchor LNG export facility, Saguaro Energia, closer to the construction stage.

Located in Puerto Libertad in Sonora, Mexico, the 15-million-tonnes-per-annum Saguaro Energia LNG Facility is the most advanced LNG development project on the west coast of North America, according to Mexico Pacific. The project was principally welcomed as the foundational pillar of the Sonora Plan, a clean-energy infrastructure and nearshoring initiative announced by the Mexican government earlier this year. The Sonora Plan seeks to promote clean-energy development, investment and economic prosperity for Sonora and Mexico.

Saguaro Energia represents the largest foreign private investment in Mexico’s history. The Government of Sonora will continue to issue timely state and municipal permits to help move the project closer to completion.
