Hawaiin Electric Companies has received 75 proposals for new renewable projects on Oahu, Maui and Hawaii, Electric Energy Online reported on Nov. 15.
Requests for proposals (RFP) for Molokai and Lanai are expected to be issued later this year, with proposals due in early 2020. The projects are subject to a competitive bidding process.
The proposals include bids to use solar, wind, energy storage and a number of other technologies, with the goal of transitioning away from fossil fuels. The submissions include more than 200 variations on how the resources could be configured.
Hawaiin Electric Companies, the largest supplier of electricity in the state of Hawaii, issued RFPs seeking 900 megawatts of new renewables in August, marking the single-largest renewable energy procurement in Hawaii and one of the largest by a U.S. utility.
