Groups plan fiber rollout in the U.K.

by Kali Persall

EXFO Inc. and Openreach, the largest digital infrastructure firm in the United Kingdom, have partnered up to deliver next-generation fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) networks in the United Kingdom.

Openreach is planning to build out this new digital infrastructure to 4.5 million premises by the end of March 2021 and deliver fiber to 20 million homes by the mid- to late 2020s.

Following a competitive tender process, Openreach has awarded EXFO with a contract to supply optical test heads and test access switching for this initiative.

“We know that now more than ever that being connected matters,” said Peter Bell, director of network technology at Openreach. “We're convinced that our new full fiber network can play a crucial role in keeping the nation connected. This year, our build has been gathering pace and momentum, and we're determined to match that rapid speed of deployment with the highest standards of build quality build and customer service.”
