GreenPower buys out 46MW Scottish wind farm

by Kali Persall

GreenPower, a Scottish renewable energy business, has bought out the 46-megawatt Carraig Gheal onshore wind farm that it has operated since 2011.

The wind farm consists of 20 Siemens 2.3-megawatt wind turbines.

The company purchased the other 50 percent interest in the Scottish wind farm from joint-owner Ampere Equity Fund last week.

GreenPower has been approved for more than 260 megawatts of clean renewable energy capacity and operates projects ranging from single wind turbine sites to utility-scale commercial wind farms, according to the company’s website. GreenPower also owns and operates a hydro project in Perthshire, Scotland, and has an additional 130 megawatts in active development.

The company’s projects save an estimated 250,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year and generate enough electricity to power 150,000 homes.
