Google to build a second $600m data center in north Texas

by Andrea Zander

Red Oak City Council in Ellis County, Texas, has approved a 10-year tax abatement agreement for a hyperscale facility in North Texas.

The $600 million Red Oak data center will be constructed on 166 acres in the northwest quadrant of Farm-to-Market 664 and State Highway 342.

Ellis County’s first Google data center at Midlothian was approved in July 2018 and ground was broken on that project earlier this year.

Google has not yet finalized the agreement. The plans discussed on July 8 will be approved at the next city council meeting on Aug. 12.
