GM to launch P2P car-sharing service

by Andrea Zander

GM has plans to pilot a new peer-to-peer (P2P) car-sharing service this summer that will allow GM car owners to rent out their vehicles, like an Airbnb-type service for cars. An official statement from GM has not been released.

Owners of GM cars will split revenue from bookings with the automaker.

It will start through the automaker’s Maven car-sharing unit. Maven currently operates car-sharing services in several U.S. cities as well as Maven Gig, which rents cars to drivers working for Uber, Lyft and certain delivery services.

Other P2P car-sharing businesses include Turo and Getaround.
