The emergence of the Omicron coronavirus variant has been accompanied by a marked deterioration in business sentiment, according to the December flash survey of risk perceptions by Oxford Economics. For the first time since the height of the pandemic, a majority of respondents have become more negative about the month. The survey was completed by 120 businesses from Nov. 29 to Dec. 9.
Supply-chain concerns have also increased. About one-in-five businesses now expect disruptions to persist beyond 2022.
About 61 percent of businesses have become more negative about global-economic-growth prospects during the past month. Concerns about the risks posed by supply-chain disruption and the new Omicron virus variant are evident throughout the survey.
