As aviation activity soars, policymakers are looking at new solutions to cope with the congestion issues this promises to cause.
Global air traffic is set to double by 2037, reaching 19.7 billion passengers annually by 2040, according to Airports Council International (ACI) World, a nonprofit representing the world's airports. As a result, ACI World has published a paper guiding airports on how to optimize their existing capacity while planning to expand to meet growing global demand.
“There is no doubt that the future of the industry is positive with forecasts showing passenger traffic growing worldwide, but airspace capacity is a key constraint for airports,” said Angela Gittens, director general of ACI World.
