Genex Power, an Australian power generation development company, said this week it is planning to install a 50-megawatt battery storage system in Queensland known as the Como energy storage facility, according to Renewables Now.
The facility will use lithium-ion batteries and will connect to an existing substation in the area.
The connection process has already been initiated with the local transmission provider Powerlink, according to Renew Economy.
Genex is understood to have launched a A$21.3 million ($15.4 million) capital raise to help fund the project, which the company is touting as “the first big battery in Queensland.”
Genex has plans to bring the facility online at the end of 2021.
