Gasunie and Kreditansalt fur Wiederaufbau (KfW), on behalf of the German government, have signed an agreement to construct an LNG terminal in northern Germany.
The project includes a jetty with two berths for vessels, two LNG tanks with a capacity of 165,000 cubic meters each, and an LNG regasification plant, according to various reports. It will have an annual regasification capacity of 8 billion cubic meters of natural gas and have the ability to import gas directly to the German market from regions that are unreachable by gas pipelines. The intention will be to refit the terminal so that it can process green hydrogen derivatives such as ammonia.
Current shareholders Vopak LNG and Oiltanking have agreed that Gasunie is the best partner for the German government to complete the terminal project quickly and successfully, and will bow out of the project.
