Freeway upgrade contract awarded in Australia

A joint venture consisting of CIMIC Group company CPB Contractors and Downer, a provider of integrated services in Australia and New Zealand, has been selected to deliver upgrades to the northern approach to the Sydney Harbour Bridge in Australia.

The $1.18 billion contract involves upgrading 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) of the Warringah Freeway, including a dedicated bus lane and active transport links for cyclists and pedestrians. The project will aim to reduce congestion and simplify the complex road corridor.

“The Warringah Freeway upgrade is key to a city-shaping network of roads that will reduce congestion in Sydney as population and transport demand grows,” said Juan Santamaria, executive chairman and CEO of CIMIC group. “The project will improve traffic flow and create better connections. We’re proud to be involved with the delivery of efficient urban transport networks and the creation of more livable cities.”
