Frankfurt has proposed a development to regulate the growth of data centers, which include building them taller, in order to decrease the amount space used.
The demand for space for data centers in Europe has increased steadily in recent years, so that Frankfurt am Main — especially as the location of the world's largest internet node DE-CIX — is one of the largest locations for data centers in Europe, alongside the cities of London, Amsterdam, Paris and Dublin.
It can be assumed that the capital-intensive industry of colocation data centers is causing increased demand pressure on commercial space, which at the same time creates price pressure that other commercial operations with lower profit margins cannot cope with and are, therefore, displaced. This applies both to areas for new settlements and to existing areas via rental and lease conditions. Such developments could be observed in the industrial areas on Lärchenstrasse, Weismüllerstrasse and Eschborner Land
