Foresight Group has completed a long-term financing agreement with U.K. fiber network provider Lightning Fibre to accelerate the development of Lightning Fibre’s fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) network in East Sussex, England.
Under the agreement, Lightning Fibre will build, install and operate new full-fiber infrastructure across the region, delivering hyperfast broadband to more than 100,000 homes and businesses that currently rely on aging copper infrastructure.
The project will enhance essential local infrastructure and accelerate the development of a fast fiber network to support the U.K. government’s digital goals, which include bringing broadband to every home in the United Kingdom by the end of 2025.
According to Foresight, only 14 percent of the United Kingdom currently has access to full-fiber broadband. It will take an estimated investment of £30 billion ($38 billion) over the next five years to achieve the U.K. government’s goals.
