Engineering firm Eolink, along with 15 European renewable energy partners, gathered in Brussels on Jan. 18, to kick-start the launch of the Black sea Floating Offshore Wind (BLOW) project.
The E.U.-backed scheme aims to install a 5-megawatt floating wind turbine in the Black Sea off the Bulgarian coast in a crucial step toward a future of sustainable energy solutions. The project is one of three to be awarded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe research and innovation program in 2022, with a grant agreement signed at the end of the year.
BLOW will use Eolink’s unique floating offshore wind turbine design and aims to engineer, manufacture and commission the 5-megawatt unit by 2025 before rolling out large-scale deployment as part of a wider industrialization process.
“The objective of this specific project is to demonstrate the competitiveness of floating offshore wind in lower-wind areas with the deployment of a large rotor diameter,” said Marc
