After nearly four years of construction, and months of delays, the first section of the new Interstate Highway 77 (I-77) Express Lanes project in North Carolina has opened to the public earlier this month.
The $665 million capital expenditure project is built and operated by I-77 Mobility Partners, which consists of Cintra, Aberdeen, GCM Grosvenor and John Laing, under a public-private partnership with the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
The I-77 Express Lanes project involves the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of new tolled lanes along 26 miles of the I-77.
The remaining 11 miles of the toll lanes from Huntersville to uptown Charlotte will open in September or October.
