Fiera acquires 50% equity interest in U.K. ferry operator Wightlink

by Released

Fiera Infrastructure, a global mid-market direct infrastructure investor and an affiliate of Fiera Capital, has acquired a 50 percent equity interest in Wightlink from Basalt Infrastructure Partners for an undisclosed sum.

Wightlink is the leading ferry operator to the Isle of Wight, England’s largest island, and is one of the leading domestic ferry operators in the United Kingdom, serving 4.5 million passengers and running more than 45,000 crossings annually.

Wightlink operates six ferries and two catamarans across three scenic routes: Portsmouth-Fishbourne, Lymington-Yarmouth, and Portsmouth to Ryde Pier Head. The Portsmouth-Fishbourne route features Wightlink’s latest fleet addition, representing a significant investment in new environmentally friendly hybrid energy.

Fiera’s investment in Wightlink will be added to its open-ended global mid-market infrastructure strategy. Basalt will continue to have a 50 percent equity position in Wightlink.

The transaction closed in May.

Fiera has C$1.6 billion ($1.21 billion) assets under management and commitments, including an active interest in 29 infrastructure assets as of May 31.
