Fidelity Investments raises $337m for data center fund

Fidelity Investments has raised $337.1 million for its inaugural Fidelity Japan Data Centers Fund, according to an announcement by its placement agent Hodes Weill & Associates.

The closed-end fund will focus on the development of hyperscale data centers in Japan.

The total investment in global data center infrastructure more than doubled last year, from $24.4 billion in 2020 to $53.8 billion in 2021. The total number of data center transactions increased by 64 percent in the same period, from 69 in 2020 to 113 in 2021, according to DLA Piper in its report, The meteoric rise of the data center: Key drivers behind global demand. The Asia Pacific region is expected to be the biggest source of future growth, said the report.
