Fall session starts: Hotels work to make dorm life for students

A year ago, dorm residents would wake up in an eight-foot by 12-foot room with two other roommates sleeping inches away. And then, such college students would make the walk down a hallway with a toilette basket in hand and shower slippers on their feet.

Dorm life. Sharing everything with your neighbor. No privacy.

Today, the traditional dorm life has changed to maintain social distancing protocols, which means lowering dorm populations. Housing block agreements between universities and hotels have been made to help students return to campus across the United States. From Syracuse, N.Y., to Bloomington, Ind., hotels, such as Wyndham, Hilton and Graduate Hotels, are becoming an alternative to dorm or off-campus housing this fall. And at the same time helping the hotel sector.
