Theresa Whitmarsh, executive director of the $165 billion Washington State Investment Board (WSIB), is planning to retire in December.
Whitmarsh joined the pension fund in 2003 and first served as WSIB’s COO before being selected to serve as the top executive of the asset management agency, a role she held for 12 years.
“Our goal is to put in place a strong and seamless transition that fully respects the investment process and proven capabilities of this organization,” said Joel Sacks, board chair of the WSIB. “No one can expect full replacement of Theresa’s exemplary leadership. Instead, we expect our next leader will bring their own distinct skills and vision to build a future based on what has been accomplished so well.”
The WSIB has launched an executive search effort to locate a successor for Whitmarsh. Due diligence and interview work is expected to continue through mid‐2021.
