Equinix to expand Hong Kong data centers for $77m

by Kali Persall

Equinix is looking to invest $77 million to expand two of its Hong Kong international business exchange (IBX) data centers, according to media outlets.

The funds will be used to expand the HK2 data center for an estimated $43 million and the HK4 data center for $34 million, according to Channel Asia. The HK2 expansion was reportedly completed in March, and HK4 wouldn’t be completed until third quarter of this year.

The expansion will add approximately 51,400 square feet, for a combined 1,500 cabinets of capacity. The centers would serve as business hubs for more than 505 companies.

Equinix has invested more than $17 billion in 200 data centers in more than 22 countries, since 1998. It is the only vendor-neutral data center provider in Hong Kong.
