The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has granted a $16 million Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) loan to the City of Cortland, New York, to help finance critical sewer rehabilitation and water main replacement projects.
EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler said EPA has now issued 20 WIFIA loans totaling $4.2 billion in credit assistance to help finance $9.4 billion for water infrastructure projects.
“EPA is acting on its commitment to infrastructure investment by providing this important support to the City of Cortland,” said Pete Lopez, EPA region 2 administrator. “The City of Cortland serves as a key gateway in New York’s Southern Tier and this investment in water infrastructure will yield positive environmental results for years to come.”
The $16 million loan will help fund the $38 million Clinton Avenue Gateway project, which will replace aged water mains, sewers and storm drainage infrastructure that has exceeded its us
