Entergy Corp., an integrated energy company engaged in electric power production, transmission and retail distribution operations, has sold the subsidiaries that own Indian Point Energy Center to a subsidiary of Holtec International. Indian Point Energy Center is a three-unit nuclear power plant station located in Buchanan, N.Y.
The buyer is planning to complete major decommissioning activities at the site decades sooner than if Entergy had continued to own the facility.
According to Entergy, the final operating unit at the site, Unit 3, was shut down by Entergy on April 30, after generating electricity safely and reliably for the last 45 years. Indian Point Unit 1 was shut down in 1974 and Indian Point Unit 2 was shut down in April 2020.
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the New York State Public Service Commission approved the transfer of Indian Point's licenses to Holtec in November 2020 and May 2021, respectively. The agencies found Holtec possesses
