DP World is planning its largest investment in Africa to date — a $1.127 billion spend to develop a 600-hectare (1,482-acre) deep-water port at Ndayane, Sengal, according to Reuters.
The global port operator and the government of Senegal signed agreements for the project under which DP World Dakar will finance, design and develop land and maritime infrastructure for the new port.
DP World is planning to invest $837 million in the first phase of the port project and $290 million in the second phase.
“The development of the new port at Ndayane will provide a strong engine of growth for the next phase of the Plan Senegal Emergent,” said Aboubacar Sedikh Beye, director general of the Port Authority of Dakar,” as reported by Reuters.
