Dominion Energy Virginia has received the green light to move forward with four battery storage pilot projects, which are expected to help the company reach net-zero carbon and methane emissions by 2050, as well as improve grid reliability.
Dominion Energy said it will use lithium-ion batteries, like the ones found in electric vehicles, to better understand how to integrate the technology into various applications.
The State Corporation Commission (SCC) granted its approval for the pilot projects, which will be the largest projects of their kind in Virginia. Together the projects will total 16 megawatts.
