by Andrea Waitrovich

Dominion Energy has plans to build a $2 billion pumped hydroelectric storage facility.

The firm is considering a 4,100-acre site is near Bluefield, Va., and an abandoned mine in Wise County.

Dominion filed a preliminary permit with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for the Tazewell site Wednesday and has enlisted Virginia Tech to study the former Bullitt Mine in Wise County.

According to the company, Dominion already owns 2,600 acres on the Tazewell County site.

After studying both sites, Dominion said it expects to make a decision on which location is superior by mid-2018.
