Digital Realty to expand renewable energy solutions in several states

Digital Realty has plans to expand its renewable energy and sustainability offerings in Northern Virginia and Oregon, the data center company announced Oct. 2.

Digital Realty signed a long-term power-purchase agreement with ENGIE North America to supply an additional 107,000 megawatt-hours of renewable solar power annually to its Northern Virginia portfolio. The 50-megawatt project will bring the company's total new wind and solar power under contract to 338 megawatts and is expected to come online in late 2020.

The company also signed a utility green tariff with Portland General Electric (PGE) to supply 120,000 megawatt-hours annually in renewable power to its data center development project in Hillsboro, Ore.

Digital Realty said the agreements will add 227,000 megawatt hours of new clean energy to the regional electric grids where Digital Realty operates, enough electricity to meet the needs of 27,900 homes for a year.
