Demographic trends and the future of real estate investing

Just as it has in the past, the demographic trends that we see happening today are affecting the economy, business and investments in real estate.

“Looking at some of the demographic trends, we see that population growth is decelerating, in other words, the population is going to be growing slower, and perhaps something that is more important is the fact that it is going to be driven by immigration,” explained Will McIntosh, global head of research at USAA Real Estate, in a video interview for Institutional Real Estate, Inc. “Immigration in the future is going to have a tremendous impact on our economy and the real estate markets.”

McIntosh continued to speak on the U.S. population and how it is aging, particularly baby boomers, the largest age cohort. That age group is going to be dominant in the U.S. economy going forward.
