Deal volume declined by 23.6 percent from 2022 to 2023

There was a decline of 23.6 percent from 2022 to 2023 for deals (mergers & acquisitions (M&A), private equity and venture financing) made from January to November in the respective years, according to a data report from GlobalData.

From January to November 2022, 64,092 deals were made, while 48,953 were made from January to November 2023.

M&A deals declined by 16.3 percent, private equity deals declined by 28.4 percent, and venture financing deals dropped by 32.5 percent.

By region, deals dropped by 28.6 percent in North America, 19.4 percent in Europe, 18.8 percent in Asia Pacific, 25.7 percent in the Middle East and Africa and 30.6 percent in South and Central America.

Aurojyoti Bose, lead analyst at GlobalData, noted, “The prevailing macroeconomic challenges and ongoing geopolitical tensions in 2023 are significantly influencing sentiments in deal-making. This impact is observed uniformly across all regions and in most key markets.”
