Danish Energy Agency launches largest offshore wind procurement procedure in Denmark

The Danish Energy Agency has announced a procurement procedure that could result in a massive increase in Danish offshore wind capacity.

Enabling the establishment of at least 6 gigawatts offshore wind power to be completed in 2030, the procurement procedure is divided into six sites in the North Sea I, the Kattegat, Kriegers Flak II and Hesselø areas.

The Danish Energy Agency said it’s possible that tenderers will erect more wind turbines as a result of the procurement procedure, and there will be an opportunity to establish up to 10 gigawatts of wind turbines or more. This could potentially result in green electricity corresponding to the consumption of more than 10 million households. Alternatively, the green electricity could also be used for hydrogen or other power-to-X products to replace fossil fuels.
