RuNe, a high-capacity fiber network builder and operator in Croatia and Slovenia, has secured a €130 million ($142 million) debt facility for its planned network expansion.
Cube Infrastructure Managers’ Connecting Europe Broadband Fund (CEBF) set up RuNe in 2019 to initially deploy high-quality fiber-to-the-home (FTTH), open-access network for residential, business and public administration in Croatia. CEBF was established to invest in greenfield and some expansion projects in the broadband infrastructure space across underserved areas in Europe.
In Croatia, RuNe intends to deploy a FTTH network for 133,000 residential, business and public administration buildings in the rural Primorje-Gorski Kotarand Istria regions, the two northwestern counties. Rune Slovenia is also planning to deploy a high-quality FTTH network passing through 229,000 homes. Both projects will become the first cross-border open-access FTTH network in the E.U.
