Crown Estate Scotland is planning to launch a new leasing process for offshore wind farms to help decarbonize the country’s oil and gas sector.
This follows the Scottish government’s opening of a consultation on a new planning process, which will inform the areas to be made available for seabed leases.
Crown Estate Scotland said this process is entirely separate to the ScotWind Leasing round currently under way for commercial scale offshore wind projects, and is specifically designed for offshore wind farms that support the decarbonization of the oil and gas sector. It will also cater to small-scale innovation projects of less than 100 megawatts.
